Why ValorScore exists
Who we are, where we write from, and what we promise — no false neutrality. Updated July 22, 2026.
1. The problem we solve
Traditional age ratings answer one question: "is there sex, violence, or strong language?". They rarely answer another that matters just as much to many people: "what values does this work advance, and do they match mine?". A film can be rated "general audiences" and still carry a worldview a family would rather know about before pressing play.
ValorScore exists to give that second reading in a granular, searchable way — 14 axes that separate content advisories (sex, violence, language, drugs) from values readings (family, faith, virtue, and the ideological alerts that make up the Woke Score). No established parental guide covers the Brazilian catalog with this lens.
2. Our perspective — declared, not disguised
We do not claim to be a neutral arbiter of truth. The axes reflect a values framework: we treat the defense of family, faith, virtue, and heroism as qualities, and certain ideological treatments as points of attention. We say so openly, because a tool that pretends to have no point of view is less honest — and less useful — than one that declares its own.
Precisely because they are descriptive, the same axes serve opposite audiences: those who want to avoid certain content and those who want to find it. You calibrate your values profile and the reading adjusts to you. We inform and recommend; we never ban, veto, or tell anyone what they may watch.
3. Our limits
A ValorScore is OPINION WITH EVIDENCE, never a factual verdict, and never a claim about the personal conduct of the people who made a work — we analyze the work, not the people.
The initial reading of each axis is made by AI and then refined by the community; it is the starting point, not the final word. In a large catalog the long tail can contain errors, and evidence coverage is still being expanded. Where a score does not show the reason that supports it, it should be read as an editorial estimate, not as established fact.
4. How we keep ourselves honest
Any ideological reading of meaningful intensity is only published with the evidence that supports it — without evidence, it is discarded, not shown as a bare number. We keep a public record of methodology changes, we declare the separation between the editorial score and commercial affiliate links, and anyone can contest an evaluation.
